While the world may never truly know the LeBron James-Kyrie Irving dynamic, we can at least potentially relive how things broke down. Doing a bit of LeBron James timeline and a Kyrie Irving timeline, we're going to look at the relationship between the two and how things, from an outsider's perspective, went south. But there was too many red flags around Kyrie, and he's only proven that to be a bigger issue than anybody could have thought it was since. With rumors of a potential reunion running hotter than the summer sun on milk left out in the heat, it needs to be done.

When I heard that getting KD meant that the Nets also had to bring in Kyrie, I knew it was a mistake. They were the best players on the court, and yes, a couple of games were pretty close.Īnd I don't think that's on KD because KD got playoff wins without Kyrie the year before against the champs. This year, the Nets had the two best players on the court against Boston and they got swept. Sure, there is not truly controlled environment in the NBA, but when you see this pattern time and time and time again from the SAME player, you have to admit that there is something more than a bad situation at play. You can point to the fact that the pre-bubble Nets had a better record WITHOUT Kyrie than with him, and people will ignore it. You can point to the fact that the Celtics made the conference finals twice BEFORE he got there, and twice AFTER he left, including a trip to the finals, but couldn't get out of the second round WITH him, and people will ignore it. You can point to the fact that they Cavs got just as far after they traded him as they did during his last season. You can point to the fact that Cleveland only won 2 more game than the year before the drafted him, despite having TWO lottery picks added to their roster. His personal stats simply do not translate to team success. I don't understand why it is SO hard for SO many people to grasp the ideas that Kyrie does NOT make teams better, EVEN WHEN he puts up amazing numbers.
